The red hue in your valve covers and the paint color on the outside of the can in Dick's photo look way too red for what I found on my '66 bell housing and clutch inspection cover. Maybe it has something to do with the lighting in the photos, but neither would I have described as Chevy engine orange. And maybe your hue is more correct for the C3 era?

It's not due to any lighting effect in my photo. The color in my photos is virtually identical to how the valve covers appeared "in the flesh".
