Body mount shimming for door gaps; 1967 convertible

Question about how to lift body just enough to remove shims from body mount right behind the driver door. I need to open up the door gap ( I have no further play with the door hinges) and I thought removing the shims in this area would help. What is the best way to lift the body in this area just enough to take weight off the shims. Is it safe to use a 2 x 6 with a floor jack and push it up into the bird cage???? I'm afraid of putting too much stress on the body???
