Re: Seat belt restoration- is SSnake oil still the best ?

Sure, I will do some after photos in the morning and I probably have some before too. I wanted to be as original as possible. I have had belts restored by others before and they just weren't right the male part is chromed but the shoulder belt pin should not and that is the way I wanted them-
I found a good set of cores that didn't need the "over chrome" , just new webbing, tags and slider. Plus 50 year old belt material just isn't safe if ever they get put to the ultimate test. Charlie used the correct original webbing, not the limp repro stuff, he replaced the bar that rusts with a new piece and used original date tags. AND he used the correct long size for my not so petite waist line. The "other guys" do a fine job,
but Charlie just does a job that is quite a bit more up to current NCRS standards. Side by side, there is a very noticeable difference.

Harry - I have a red/red 63 and I wonder if you have a red interior. If so ? Did the belts come back as "real" red or the "salmon" color that I've heard was used for some cars (and which I'm skeptical about)..

Thanks - I have two original 63 sets of well-worn,red belts in storage and I think I'll give Charlie a call...
The hardware is fine but the webbing is faded and threadbare..
Some owner tried to dye one set so the labels are red-tinged..ugh!

Did you replace or reuse the vinyl/plastic sleeve that prevents the shoulder belt from slipping through the seat hole?
If replaced, a photo would be great.

I wanted these very original note the sholder belt pin, it is NOT chromed over, left AS IS on purpose ORIGINAL, the web material is the real original not the repop webbing that is "limp" for lack of a better discription. The tags are real and the webbing is the LONG length,
when I had my 70 brand new the length I dont remember as being a issue, but 50 years later it seems to be a issue for some reason.
I think Charlie did a heck of a good job would any NCRS judge have a hard time passing these with zero deduct ??
The female portion of the seatbelt was in very good condition so I left AS IS if not for a really bad repaint the car should be a survivor.
I have completely stripped the exterior and had a expensive paint job done to NCRS spec as per my understanding of the rules 6 months ago.
                Bob we will see

I think you are talking about the "slider" Charlie had those, very very nice ones. The belts I sent him were blue with a fair slider-
                    quite a difference Bob
