The judging manual for the '63 indicates that the drive shaft should have the P/N stenciled on it. I'm trying to determine the P/N, font size, and print color. Can anyone advise or provide the name of a stencil supplier? Regards, Greg Barr

Re: 1963 Drive Shaft Stencil
I do not know if this will help but here it is anyway.
I failed to find a stencil so a friend of mine, that is a graphic artist, helped me with this one.
I guessed at the size and printed it and cut it out using an exact-o knife.
Best of luck

Re: 1963 Drive Shaft Stencil
I've been scratching my head and I do not recall seeing any stenciling on 63 to 67 drive shafts. I do know there are painted rings on the shaft.

Re: 1963 Drive Shaft Stencil
No idea if they have exactly what you need for your car or not but I have bought and used d/shaft stencils from Quanta. I just checked their site and one can be bought for $12.
Hope this helps.Don Lowe

Re: 1963 Drive Shaft Stencil
Don,
Can not say with 100% certain on '63 driveshaft, but my 1965 definitely did not have a stenciled part number. Whereas, as noted above the 1956 - 62 Corvettes driveshafts were stenciled with a part number.

Re: 1963 Drive Shaft Stencil
If, as Quanta reports, there was a stencil for '56 through '62 but not for '63, I find it interesting how sometime later, GM went back to stencils on driveshafts. I'm not a C2 guy, so I don't have any Judging Guides for Midyear cars. I do, however, have the 5th Edition of '70-'72 and Fig 8.35 (Chassis section) details driveshaft part number 3921675 on the shaft in yellow stencil. Characters shown in Fig 8.35 are very similar to this detailed above in this thread. Seems some '63 benchmark examples would be helpful as reference.Don Lowe

Re: 1963 Drive Shaft Stencil
I do not recall anyone mentioning any part numbers stencil on C2 Propeller Shaft, aka driveshafts. The print for driveshaft, 3868727, release date of 6/64 mentions the painted rings - no requirement for part number. Besides the early driveshafts got hit with blackout so one would not see those part numbers.

Re: 1963 Drive Shaft Stencil
Am in the process of balancing and refinishing my '63 driveshaft and also saw the mention of a stenciled part # on the driveshaft, even in my '94 Judging Manual. However, multiple photos in Noland Adams book show the drive shaft fully covered in blackout, so not sure how the judging will continue on this. I guess to play it safe - you could do the stencil and the green and orange stripe that Harry mentions and then if you get dinged, do the blackout.- Top
