Another 1963 Question - Exhaust Bezels

Are these TFP for a 1963? I have read some of the archived threads, but I am still confused. The splits are are cleanly cut, but the splits where the bezel has been beveled looks jagged. I have seen these on other '63's and saw one today on a '63 roadster auto with air, but those were riveted into the valance. The JG doesn't mention the splits. Don't know why the picture is sideways. Thanks for any comments.

They are 63 bezel that have been broken They should be welded at the face and they screw in with from Phillips screws into J clips in the valance.

Pretty typical weld failure for 63 bezels. The weld on the face is dressed down to fair into the rest of the bezel and that doesn't leave much material left so they break right at the weld. When I had mine welded I asked him the build up a little more material on the back side to prevent another repair downstream.

Thanks Donald. Should it be just a spot weld or a butt joint weld? Just not sure how it should look. Thanks.

Sven, A stainless steel weld will fix them. Just ask the welder to try to keep the surface as smooth as possible. You will still need to sand with 400 grit, polish and buff. I've done two sets and they look as good as originals.
