    1969 Coupe Door Weatherstrip Options

I was wondering if I could have some thoughts on this door weatherstrip that I was planning to use. I could probably get the front to work but the aft is so far off that even if I could get it to fit, it wouldn't look correct.

I know various things changed throughout the 69 model year so I'm wondering if I should be looking at weatherstrip for a 68? My car is a late Jan 69 build, not exactly early but not a late build either. This repop weatherstrip was purchased about 10 years ago so maybe that was all there was back then for the 69s. If that is the case then does anyone know if the repops have improved and where I might be able to find weatherstrip that matches my original?

If this is all there is then does anyone have any tips for making it fit and function.

    Your thoughts are appreciated.

Those appear to be from Corvette Rubber. You may want to give them a call and see what they have to say about them.

Unfortunately most replacement weatherstrips are not accurate.

      Greg,

Just an FYI - The real first design NOS that was used on the assembly line and used on L69 thru L71 coupes was 16th of an inch thicker than the later over the counter from GM. Also, it was firmer or harder to the feel than those available afterwards from Chevrolet. I was fortunate enough to acquire a complete set for the L69 - L71 application and I have compared them to later OTC and aftermarket products. - Ron

        Thanks guys,

Pat I don't recall who I bought them from but Corvette Rubber does ring a bell so you are probably correct about the source.

Ron would you be able to send me a picture of the aft section of your door rubber as well as the part numbers of each side(the number isn't legible in my AIM). I know NOS will be a long shot but I'll never know if I don't try.

I haven't talked to Corvette Rubber but is it safe to assume that most all 69s have the wrong door weatherstrip these days? I find it hard to believe that this is as good as it gets but if it is then I'll just have to try my best to make it work....

Re: 1969 Coupe Door Weatherstrip Options

Corvette Rubber sells through most of the catalog companies, so even if you bought them elsewhere, CR likely made them.

There are 1 or 2 other companies making weatherstrips, one of which is Metro Moulded.
          Again, none are completely accurate.

CR does tends to be responsive to complaints, thus I encouraged a call.

Found this in Dr Rebuild's catalog, page 117. Maybe they can help.

Re: 1969 Coupe Door Weatherstrip Options

Hey guys, thanks for your help so far. Sorry for not getting back sooner but we had a shot of -35 weather here last week that had me dealing with other issues..

Thanks Mark for that tip on Doc's site. It looks like I might have the short lived "Mid" style so hopefully I'll find something that will work.

I did talk to Corvette Rubber and they were very helpful. I them sent them the pics I posted here earlier and they say it looks like convertible weatherstrip.... Looking at pics from their's and other sites I tend to agree. Now would it be possible to have convertible weatherstrip on a coupe? Will it fit?

Now please have a look at my latest pics. They show my old original weatherstrip in comparison to the repop weatherstrip.

Note how the original fills the gap aft of the outer glass stainless strip/seal but the repop leaves it wide open.

Also note how the screw attach points are too far apart on the weatherstrip to attach to the door. I'm thinking this is an indicator of bad repop.

Anyways I'd like to hear what you guys think and what advice you might suggest. Also I'd like to see any pics of original or repop weatherstrip as installed so that I can see what I should be striving for.

Sorry for the pics being off 90 degrees, is there some way to rotate them?

Just thought I should bump this up to see if I can get any help. Has anyone seen or heard of convertible door weatherstrip on a coupe from new because I'm starting to think that is what I have here....
