    60 FI fouled plugs

I changed the AC 45S plugs to 46S, but the fouled plug issue remains. Dead cylinder/s come to life after about 10 minutes of driving however, FI unit dies at every stop light in the meantime-no fast idle. After engine warms up it will idle at about 1150 RPM. Fuel is VP 110 leaded. Any ideas?

Are the plugs oil fouled or carbon fouled? Do you see any smoke out the tail pipes? If so, what color is it? What is the condition of the engine?

As far as FI issues which could cause carbon fouling if that's what you are seeing, they include:

    1. Poor calibration
    2. Ratio lever always on the Power Stop
    3. Failed Cranking Signal Valve

Plugs have both carbon and oil fouling however, gaps are spot on. Exhaust is black in color and I had a complete rebuild 7500 miles ago. I think the failed cranking signal valve is the reason I have no idle RPM, but not sure why I am getting plug fouling that clears up when the engine warms up.

By that do you mean that you are seeing black smoke?

How was the FI unit calibrated after its most recent rebuild?

Which of the two stop screws is the Ratio Lever resting against when the engine is idling (or what passes for idle)?

If you are getting oil fouling, it would seem there is something not quite right about the engine since the rebuild.

On start up there are puffs of black exhaust as opposed to light gray or blue. The FI was calibrated by Tim Mickey about three years ago. The Ratio Lever is resting against the 1st. stop screw on initial idle. What ever the source of the problem it disappears once the engine has warmed up.

Have you contacted Tim Mickey to see what he has to say? I recommend doing so. It's always good practice to give the person who worked on your FI the opportunity make it right if there is a problem.

Richard. Get a 4” or longer 1/4”ID vacuum hose and a pair of visegrips.
Put this hose between the CSV and the vacuum line going to the brass T fitting.
but first loosen the fitting but going to the T fitting. Swing the vacuum line up in the air so you can install the
vacuum hose. Start the engine. Then clamp the hose shut. You have now eliminated the CSV. See if this helps.
if not see if the choke cover is getting hot. Does the so called choke work?
FI chokes first came out in 1962.

Thanks John, I will give this a try.
