Hi Does any one know if the 2003 have been prone to electrical shorts. The reason I ask is because, I am having a problem. If I charge the battery up to over 12 volts, by morning the battery is below 5 volts and nothing works. If the battery is disconnected, the battery will stay charge. When it is fully charged and I go to connect the ground, it SPARKS badly. I have started to remove a fuse at a time to see if that circuit is the one causing the short, this could be a long process, I was never good at finding a short. This spring something filled the drain utter on the passenger side, which put a good layer of water on the floor, it did not seam to get in the fuse box, or computer. Thank You Fred

Re: Electrical 2003
Fred, try disconnecting the alternator. Bad (leaky) diodes will cause this problem. This used to be a problem on older cars as the diodes of the day were not that all good. But technology has improved greatly since then, and newer cars don't have this problem that much. But anything is possible.
If that is not it, then you will have to disconnect things one at a time until the sparks go away.

Re: Electrical 2003
Fred;
I don't believe the C5 are prone to shorts. You didn't mention if the car is drivable or not. Without an amp meter to measure the load this will be difficult to trace.
I do know you have a serious short or system malfunction somewhere and it could be a safety issue. It takes time, patience, tools and some knowledge to track down this stuff. If you lack any one of these attributes I would recommend taking the car to a professional.- Top

Re: Electrical 2003
This subject has been discussed numerous times on the Corvette Forum. There are some great threads on the Corvette Forum under C5 which will help find the problem. Check you seats as the lumbar motors may be running continuously. I agree with disconnecting your alternator and see if you still have a draw. You should also not have more than a 20-30 miliamp draw after the car is turned off for at 30 minutes.- Top
