Absence of visible broach Marks is not a bad thing, presence or evidence of any other machining process is a bad deal.

I have found that the lighting can have a big effect on how visible the broach marks are. Generally, lighting from the side, with the light sort of skating across the surface, seems to work better than direct lighting. Attached are two photos of the SAME PAD that illustrate the difference that lighting can make.
