Scam on Email involving an NCRS member

I received a request allegedly this morning via email from an NCRS member asking me to get a gift card for his daughters birthday as he is out of town. You know the scam from here. Do not respond !!!!!!!!!!!

very common scam - they harvest ALL kinds of emails and then blast away looking for just ONE person to respond......,.

I received one also this morning . . . in fact, this is the third one that I've received over the past few months. I've contacted the Michigan Oakland County Sheriff and filed a complaint after I received the first one. For every one of these e-mail's I received, I copy it, including the pertinent and forwarded it to the sheriff's office. A detective continues to investigate this person or persons . . . .

I receive at least one email a day purporting to be from Mike Ingham directing me to pay a "vendor". This type of scam is growing.

I receive an e mail very similar to the one John describes that are alleged to be from the Mid-Atlantic Chair (mentioned by name in the e mails) about once a month to 6 weeks. This has been going on for well over a year. I recognize the fake e mail address and block it - the following month the message, or one similar to it, arrives with a new "from" e mail address. We can't confirm it but we suspect that scammers get chapter treasurer's e mail address from chapter websites or newsletters. Our contact info is out there, about all we can do now is remain vigilant.

I received an email in the wee hours of the morning from Mike Ingham
" John, How are you today? Can you please handle this for me on behalf of the Society? National Corvette Restorer's Society need Gift cards for donations to Veterans Hospice care unit across the community.
Kindly confirm if you can help out."
                etc.
Then I forwarded this note to the Pittsburgh chapter board members.

Ha Ha....use of the word "kindly" is the dead giveaway. Third world scammers lack of command of US English sticks out like a sore thumb.

I told them I was at Starbucks and could send a Starbucks gift card. They said that would be fine. They're still waiting.
