Jim good morning to you, have done a bit of looking but the date is 10.29.65 , and it looks pretty original opening with no brooch marks.?- Top

I do have the same? With same numbers Also with the divider which is the second design, however there is mention of a third design for L88.? With open plenum. Could it be this as it certainly was not cut out by hand tool, looks more like forged?- Top

The early L-88 intake manifolds as sold over the counter with the center divider removed was part number #3886092. This manifold had the casting number #3885069 as you see. This was the manifold as used on the 1966 L-72 425HP / 427 engine, but with the machine modification, it carried a different part number. I also have one of these manifolds, purchased new.

Bear in mind that the number found on most manifolds is not the part number for a finished manifold. Rather, it's usually the part number for the CASTING. The casting is then used for one or more finished manifolds which have part numbers different from the casting. Unfortunately, these finished manifold part numbers appear nowhere on the manifold. In the case of the 3885069 casting, at least 3 finished part numbers were made from the casting. One version had 3 plenum orifices, another version had 2 plenum orifices, and the third was open plenum (the one you picture).
Sometimes, folks field-converted the 3 hole or 2 hole versions to open plenum by field "machining". Often, the "machining" was crudely done with a die grinder. However, the one you picture looks like a factory open plenum.
By the way, these open plenum manifolds are not the best for street operation. Personally, I would never use one on a car I intended to be primarily a street vehicle.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Looks very much like the L-88 intake I had dated 11-17-67. The plenum divider did not look to be machined out but as cast.Attached Files- Top

This manifold was GM #3886092. However, I believe the 3886069 casting was also used to manufacture the 3886092 manifolds.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

On my intake you may notice the part numbers are not on a raised pad? And again ? The date is very early 10.29.65.- Top

The early big block aluminum manifolds usually did not have the casting number on a raised pad. Given its date, if this manifold was originally used in PRODUCTION, it would have been for a 1966 model year application. I am not aware that any open plenum manifold was used for the 1966 model year, Corvette or otherwise. I suppose it's possible that an open plenum manifold was being sold in SERVICE that early, though. Otherwise, I suppose that it is possible that this was a modified from the two or three orifice design. If so, though, someone did a really good, factory-like job, not the "hatchet job" usually seen.
As mentioned previously, the L-88 was the only big block to use an open plenum manifold. Only 1967 and early 1968 L-88 used this casting number, though. So, this manifold would appear to be too early to have been off of an L-88.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
