I can't remove the trim ring without cutting the shrink wrap packaging and I would rather not do that. I think the dull finish you see is a result of dust and aging of the plastic. If I look through a small hole in the plastic, I can see that they are shiny but not a polished shiny.

Also of note, I have the original steel wheels that show no marks where trim rings would have been mounted.

Thanks Bob , was trying get the feel of what the finishing shine would be I guess almost like a satin finish , Danny

      Hi Bob,
I'm wondering if you can check the backside of the rings to see which inner reinforcement(clip)retaining ring they have? Is it Black like the first photo below?..... or galvanized as shown in the second photo?
      Thanks,

        Hey Jimmy,
Good to hear from you. Here is the best shot I can get. I'm thinking it is a black oxide finish. Definitely not galvanized.

          Thanks Bob,
Yeah, we never really dug into these while working on the 73-74 Revision. Another one of those early vs. later things as mentioned in the revision. The same language was used in the 70-72 TIM&JG as well. I was just wondering when the change actually ocurred. Maybe Joe L. or someone else would have a good idea. All four of mine on my '73 have the silver or "galvanized" ring. I can't verify that they are original to the car. I just recently picked up a couple from a friend and they had the "galvanized" reinforcing rings too.

          Just wondering!

I misunderstood your question. I thought you were referring to the mounting clips which are black oxide. The retaining ring on these trim rings are galvanized and NOT black oxide.

That's ok Bob, I was trying to point to the different reinforcing rings with the arrows.

I was under the impression that 1967 and 1968 had the black retaining rings.
I also seem to remember Ed Foss's low mile '75 had the original ring and cap packages displayed at a few meets. That was the first time I think I ever saw them

                  Sal,
Seems to me they were in his car in Gettysburg about 10 years ago. That was the first time I had ever seem them. I believe that was they Year you had a green/green C3 car there to be judged. They were shrink wrapped with plastic banding and cardboard to protect the rings from the banding. I seem to recall a part number being on the packaging. Maybe others have a better memory.

I thought that was a WB Gold/ green car, not green/green. (Possibly OntOrange/green...?)

Given my bad vertigo that weekend I don't recall the trim rings with Ed's car, but I do recall Sal's car. Quite unique.

I remember it was a very different color combo. I guess 1/2 right is not very good but Dr. Pat is a lot younger than me. Never seen that combo before or since.

Attached are 2 pics of the box of rally wheel caps. It was in storage in my basement. Sorry about the writing on the box

The box was opened long ago. Here is what it looks like inside.

Awesome shots! I have an original boxed set of caps but only have the packing slip for the ‘set’ of trim rings. That’s exactly how they were delivered, at least in 68/69. I’m with Sal on color of the retaining rings.
Thnx for sharing those rare items.
