    Starter Drive Housings----Part 3

In Part 3 I'll cover the aluminum housings used for 1970-82 Corvettes with Turbohydramatic transmissions. These housings were used for the following Corvette applications:

    1970-82-----all with THM transmissions

These housings use 2 long starter bolts for attachment to the engine block. These bolts are the same as the long bolt used for 1962-72 Corvettes with the aluminum "1 long and 1 short" bolt housings. There were 3 different part numbers used over the 1970-82 period. GM #801188 was used for 1970-77. GM #1893864 was used for 1978-82 and SERVICE for 1970-77. GM #1984097 replaced the latter for 1970-82 SERVICE in 1984. The GM #1984097 is now discontinued.

This photo shows all of the above-referenced starter drive housings side-by-side:

The below photos show the GM #801188 used from 1970-77. Note that these housings used the closed-end bushing race from the very beginning:

The below photos show the GM #1893864 used from 1978 to 1982:

The below photos show the GM #1984097 available for SERVICE of the 1970-82 applications after 1984:
