Late 71 - judging headlamp correct but out - replace but incorrect?

71 late car with 72 style headlamps... small T3 low on the lamp.
Checking operations today for Cinci and one of my highbeams smoked... (the only one which was not NOS) the replacement I had also smoked...

SO what is the correct move here for Flight Judging? I can leave a smoked but correctly marked bulb or replace with a earlier 71 style T3... if I can't find one in 3 days.

When the car is judged for exterior you will receive full credit for the non functioning bulb however the lights will fail in operations and you will receive a 25 point deduct for headlight operations. If you replace with a 71 T3 style you will pass operations but get a deduct of 1/4 of 20% of the value of the lights for each bad bulb in the exterior judging. Which is probably the better way to go.

Wouldn't you only lose 6 points of the 25 for the headlight operations, if the other three work?

I have a different take on your situation.
If you judge that car as is you will lose points for one non functioning headlamp out of the four you have. It won't be 25 points. You likely will lose on condition in flight Judging for that lamp as it is likely discolored.
Seeing as you have a late 71 car it would have been possible to have a mix of headlamp types so you car could possibly have one or two of the 68-71 style with the lines in the triangle. Many late 71 cars have been seen with a mix. On such short notice you could install a working 68-71 style lamp. By doing you will get the operations points and likely get the Judging points as well. If you cannot find a 68-71 style lamp install a generic lamp and you will get the operations points and have a minor deduct in flight judging for a non T3 lamp.
        Good luck in Cincinnati.
