Question on the position of the headlamp door switch

    Guys,

I'm wiring up the front lamps on my 69 coupe non-AC car and trying to figure out how to correctly install the headlamp door switch. There is a knob on the shaft that only allows the switch to be installed in one orientation, but that orientation is with the switch facing down where there doesn't seem to be any way to activate it. Iv'e looked at the switch as I have manually moved the headlight assy up and down and I don't see any way the switch can be activated. Looking at the AIM I don't think my HL assy is missing anything. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Please see the attached pics and thanks for your assistance.

    Michael,

Your installation is correct; the switch will perform as intended in that position.

In case you you still need to install one or the other switch, be very cautious when tightening the nut that holds it in place. The plastic stud can very easily break off.

        Mike,

This photo show the headlamp up, with the switch in contact with the small piece that activates it.

This photo shows the headlamp down (opposite side of car from the first photo) with a chrome magnetic probe touching the piece of linkage you're looking for. You can see yours clearly in your second photo.

Thanks Larry. I'm just not sure what's up with my assembly but it sure looks correct and the headlights move up and down without issue or binding. Maybe it's just an adjustment that's not correct, or maybe the headlight will move up more when I'm not moving them by hand? The piece that is supposed to contact the switch is still about an inch away when the headlight is pushed up manually. I took some additional pics in the hopes you might catch something that is out of whack. Thanks for any help you can give.

            Mike,

I see your problem, but not, unfortunately, a solution. The only thing I can think of is that one of the linkage components was installed incorrectly upon reassembly.

Can you make a side by side comparison with another C3 to see what, if anything, may be wrong?
