The search begins.... I find a lot of rare and good parts on ebay, you must know exactly what to look for. Get a copy of the new 58-60 judging guide , it has color pictures of the thermostat housing

There are two or three different configurations of the 3837223 thermostat housing. Make sure you get the one shown (-6-48)top of page 172 in the new 58-60 TIM & JG. I some for sale if you need one.

Ken.The late '57's and '58's have a seamed aluminum water outlet. The seam goes down thru the center. In the old days when Dale Pearman was around he proved to us that some of the '62's used the same outlet. Hard to find one that isn't all pitted.
Resurface the bottom on a granite surface plate with sand paper.
Then use the GM thermostat gasket that is my favorite as it's has sealant on both sides of it. Part# 10105135. It's shaped just like your water outlet.
John Hickley taught us this. I absolutely love this gasket as haven't had any leaks using it. The flat gaskets are iffy.
Ken, Check out the FI section in the new manual. It's intensive to say the least.
I worked on it forever with David Heitzman and Tim Mickey etc.
