The information you both provided was excellent. I think I will leave well enough alone with the replacement windshield which is in great shape.

They had a transparent "layer" to reduce interior heating and, possibly, glare. (There was a "cutaway" in the "layer" so that radar detectors or other electronics would work.)
GM #10172489. They carried a GM list price of over $2,500 when they were discontinued.
The LT-5 was larger in size than the Chevy small block, which is typically the case for an overhead cam motor. To help with space in the engine compartment, a phyisically smaller AC compressor was used (I believe it was from a Japanese vehicle). It did not have the capacity of the GM unit normally used for Vettes, and the purpose of the solar windshield was to reduce cabin heating.
The worse example of windshield delamination that I've ever seen was on the last ZR-1 produced which is on display at the National Corvette Museum. Interesting to look at though!
