    60 Door Handle

I have had the push button & spring retainer for the outside door handle come loose twice. I can't find any documentation in the service manuals about the assembly. It appears to simply be a "friction" fit so possibly I should apply some glue to retain it. Anyone have experience or suggestions? Thanks!

    Don,
I am guessing that those are typical-fit reproduction parts. There is a groove in the chrome part behind that pictured lip that the black piece twists into, but the fit is incorrect and the black piece, as you have found, because it is spring-loaded, ends up coming out. The correct original black piece was originally zinc plated, and the originals fit tightly but didn't come out of the chrome piece without twisting back off. Is your black piece original or repro? Seems to me that my original piece twisted extremely tightly into the repro chrome. You might try an original if that's a repro. Have you tried gently squeezing the lips of the chrome piece together. Otherwise, you might try adhering the two, but no guarantee that it will work. Good luck.

      Hi Mike,
Those are all original parts - I painted the twist in part after removing rust. It looks like I will have to add some type of adhesive. Thanks for the reply. Don H.

I had the same problem and ran some solder in the groove which tightened things up.
