Thanks! I know this is not the born with engine. Early history said it was replaced under warranty in this location. Not looking for any confirmation,
just was wondering which dealer would have done it. Probably long since gone, just a history search.
Valve spring failure leading to a dropped valve and a warrantee fitted block (and often 1 head) certainly occurred in early big blocks prior to the double valve springs. But, I would think the warrantee replacement of a whole engine would very rare. If you have a block with the CE code indicating a 68 or 69 date or a 67 351 block with proper grain but no stamping, there is a good chance it was warrantee work. This may give you satisfaction about the likely history of your car, but it carries no weight in judging. However, many of us can admire the work of other members restoring their cars for judging without worrying about the judging attributes of our own cars.
... had a classmate in grad school who owned a '67 427/400. He was active duty Air Force and finished before I did. On the trip to his first active duty assignment at the Space Division in LA (where I ended up a few years later) the engine seized up, so he got a new short block under the 5 /50 warranty. A hundred miles down the road IT seized up!
It had a CR trans and 3.70 axle. He didn't beat on it that hard, but I have to say it's one of the fastest accelerating cars from 30-80 I've ever experienced.
