2003 corvette with 32,000 miles with sudden engine light on.

Suddenly the engine light came on my 2003 corvette convertible. Only has 32,000 miles on it. Gas cap is fine, engine oil is fine, wiring checked out and levels all checked. Any ideas what else to check before taking in to dealer next Wednesday?? Just wondered. I know it may sound like a silly question but oh well.

If you don't have a code reader, stop by your local auto parts store and have them read them. They will read them for free, your dealer will charge you for it. My father in law didn't want to bother me because I was busy painting my car so he took his car to the dealership because his engine light was on. They charged him $100 to read the code, $150 for an O2 sensor and another $150 to install it. I have a code reader, my price on the sensor is less than $50 and install time is less than 15 minutes. Stealerships are the last place I would take a car for repair that wasn't under warranty.

      John,

This video will show you how to access and clear codes without using an external reader.

Depending on the Code shown, you may want try cleaning the Mass Airflow Sensor especially if you have an olied K and N filter. Over oiling these types of filters causes oild to contaminate the Mass Airflow Sensor. CRC chemicals sells a excellent cleaner. Also check to make sure that all hoses under hood have not come loose. Please report back your findings.
          good luck, Scott

All is well. It was the gas cap!!! I opened it and then replaced it, drove about a mile and a half and the light went out!!!! Yay!!!
