Re: Which FI engine is this?
Hi Mark, I see you got some correct answers. Here's one more to confuse some people. I believe Chevy advertised that there was a low HP '61 unit number 7017310. Which would look like yours from a distance. But the low HP unit for '61 only came as a finned top plenum #7017200.If
one sees a 7017310 unit on a '61 its not correct. Meanwhile I have only seen one real 7017310 in 50 plus years. Brian Futo said he has seen one.
That engine compartment looks like a HHP with a 7017320 FI unit. It should have a '914 dual point distributor.
Not that the owner is using a black AC GF-90 fuel filter instead of the original Holly/Ford canister.
In Noland Adams book he has a pic of a LHP '59-'61. One of the few I have ever seen. No hose going from the air cleaner to the radiator core support. Where the hose would go there is sheet metal block off plate.
Now here is a clue that not all know. Look at the radiator support where the air cleaner hose goes. Look at the 3 holes for the block off plate ( I think there are 3-forgot) If those holes have threads in them then that's a good sign the car is suspicious so to speak. That would mean a block off plate was once installed. Hence low HP.
Another place to look is the holes or hole in the firewall for the tach cable.
One more secret as most of the guys know this anyhow. The Fuel injection emblems were not parallel to the ground. The emblem was slightly tilted up toward the windshield.
Other tips but I said enough for now. John D.
