    Idle adjustment...... Better on hot or cold engine ?

    Hello to all;
    My idle is a bit high on my L76. Want to pull it back from 1000'ish to 850rpm. Is it better to turn back the screw when the engine is cold, right after start-up, or properly warmed up after a few mile ride ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Are you talking about the idle air adjustment on the bottom of the carb or the idle adjustment on the throttle?

    Either way you would want the motor warmed up to operating temperature.

      Any adjustment to idle speed and/or mixture should only be done with the engine fully warmed up, but before doing this you should check and correct dwell as necessary. Then use a dial back timing light to check total WOT advance, which, with the VAC signal line disconnected and plugged should be in the range of 36-40 degrees at 2600 or higher assuming you have the OE spark advance map, but don't assume you do unless you have already verified it.

      Finally make sure the VAC is functional. At idle speed with the VAC connected, total advance should be close to 30 degrees.

        Thank you Duke; I'll let my engine tuner tackle this one !

          Better yet have your engine tuner teach you how, it is not rocket science!
