    65 Steering Coupler

65 327/300. Does my coupler appear to be installed incorrectly? It appears the end on the steering shaft needs to go on the steering box. If, in fact, this installation is incorrect it has been this way for several years and I just noticed it when adding power steering.

Bill I think you are right. Check the second post below as it has some photos.

Thanks Bob. The thread you referenced also answered another question that for functionally it makes no difference. I think I'm going to turn it around just for correctness.

        Bill,

I looked at LICS website and I believe your installation is correct as shown for 65. The rag joint was changed in 67, as also shown on the LICS website and the installation was reversed. (The safety pins point the opposite direction) Check it out, they have some great photos of both rag joints. This photo is my 67.......

          Re: 65 Steering Coupler

To be honest, I've looked at countless photos and I've seen the coupler installed in both directions. My main concern is that it is safe the way it is installed. I'm trying to decide now if I will reverse it. I just finished installing power steering when I noticed it. While my car will never be judged I am a stickler for detail. My main concern, as I stated, if I leave it the way it is, will it be totally functional and safe. By the way, my power steering install went well and I'm very happy with the mod. All that's left is to get the alignment done this week.

            Bill
As long as the rag is securely clamped on the column and box input, the nuts holding the rag are tight, you are good. The 63-66 flange ends are the same so it comes down to where the nuts for the rag are facing. I use a drop of 242 Loctite on the pinch bolts and nuts as well. The rag looks flat, the install looks good.
