when i hook up the battery something grinds a little? bad electric clock conversion thanks rdr

Unplug the clock and the wiper motor and see if the sound abates.
If so plug those back in, one at a time, to determine which one is causing the noise.
My '61 wipers would "pulse" every so often even though they were turned off because the internal motor points needed adjusting.. -
