RPO 684 inner fender air tube hole

Did big brake inner fenders arrive pre drilled to the plant or were the air tube holes drilled in St.Louis? If done in St.Louis before assembly or after? What is the size of the hole?

Joe, are you talking about the rectangular holes below the front bumpers inside the grille area where the air deflectors bolt to the fiberglass?

Al, I am referring to the round holes on the inner fender near the fire wall that used a tube to direct fresh air to the rear brakes. My 57 Factory Race Car was fitted with pre production big brakes in November 1956. It makes me wonder if St.Louis added the holes on production ordered cars.

        Joe,

Mr. John Hinckley taught many of us, that if it's displayed in the AIM, then it happened at St. Louis.

Without specific vintage published detail, I suspect that is correct. A number of items like bumper holes were template drilled in St.Louis as seen in Plant pictures. Since big brake cars were made in small quantities, I would think the inner fender holes were done at the Plant.

          Thanks,

            Joe,

Most of the items that required holes to be drilled in the inner fender and firewall areas at St. Louis had "dimples" in the fiberglass. "X" marks the spot so to speak, drill template holes.

Suspect the Big Brake option holes did not since there was a very low quantity produced.
