Best way to remove paint from spare tire cover

    Guys,

Trying to clean up the spare tire cover on my 69 coupe. A previous owner had painted it rattle can black. My first thought was to carefully use paint remover, doing small areas at a time and not letting it sit too long. What do you think?

Mike just do not use any paint stripper, use fiberglass paint stripper. or try some lacquer thinner and fine steel wool .

      Mike,

There was a like post a few weeks ago about removing paint from a C2 spare tirecover and the general consensus was to use lacquer thinner and a rag orpossibly the softest 3M Scotch Brite pad that they make.

      Regards,

      James

Lacquer thinner or acetone. They work quite well.

Interestingly enough, I've also recently had good results with WD-40.

An old sign painters trick, use oven cleaner it also removes "traded paint" I used it often when I was in the part time used car business. it never harmed the original paint.
