New technology for protecting bare metal parts?

To keep bare cast iron and other metal parts from rusting I used to spray them with VHT High Temperature clear and then cure them in an oven at high heat. That 30 years ago process hardened the paint and also dulled the finish so it was not gloss like it was right out of the can.

BTW that process was particularly good for exhaust manifolds. I'd do the clear and bake it before shooting the engine paint. So when the engine color burnt off the manifolds were not left bare cast iron subject to rusting quickly.

I need to protect the bare parts on a new restoration project and am wondering what the latest technology might be for that purpose? I suspect there are new products on the market that may work as well with out having to bake them. Any experiences and suggestions you can share would be appreciated.

I have coated many cast iron parts with any good matt clear and the finish looks fresh and has lasted many years. I also coated a set of aluminum valve covers over 20 years ago and they look like the day they were coated. No baking required.

Troym, Eastwood Diamond Clear Satin Finish. Compatible with all metals and coatings. Heat resistant up too 300F.
New part number so maybe a different formula. IDK. 16106Z
On the fuel injection hi-pressure pumps the casting is supposed to be black, etc phosphate. Then an oil preservative on top. Instead of using the oil on the phosphate (temporary job) I use the satin clear. Seems to hold up. John

I like this option (Eastwood clear satin) in place of the oil which failed within one year of its application.

I see that VHT now has a Clear Satin Flameproof extreme high temperature rattle can. Available at Autozone. Should work better than the gloss.

Silicone ceramic base good to 2000 degrees. Perfect for exhaust manifolds.
