Re: 1953-1955 corvette windshield date coded
i have two 53-55 windshields i bought from dale smith of OEM Glass back in the 80's. i've used dales windshields in our 54,55 and two 57's. one must use a urthane adhesive between the glass and the weatherstrip channel or the windshield frame pulls way from the top of the glass. i've experienced what appears to be too short(from bottom to top of glass) on every c-1 windshield i've installed, no matter who the supplier was. the two spare is have from OEM are NOT dated coded. i recall paying about 250-300 bucks in the early 80's from dale. if u can use one for 100 bucks, its yours. i'll keep one spare for our 54. i can bring it to las vegas in july. mike- Top

Re: 1953-1955 corvette windshield date coded
OEM ceased operations as far as i know. i watched dale date code several windshields years ago. he had thin rubber patches with the desired LOF dates etc cut out of the patch. he'd hold the patch to a windshield then blast the patch with what looked like baking soda. his dates looked great. mike- Top

Re: 1953-1955 corvette windshield date coded
For what its worth, I used Auto City Classic for my 53'. They date code correctly. It was a decade ago when I bought it, at the time I think it was around $450, that included date code and shipping.- Top

Re: 1953-1955 corvette windshield date coded
Mike, like you, back in the day I used OEM. I had one of their dated windshields in a box for a few decades, When I finally needed it I found that bubbles had developed in the lamination. Windshield was thus useless except for target practice.
Switched to Auto City because OEM closed.
For what its worth, my local glass shop says they can get an undated 53-55 windshield for $108. So the glass itself is not that expensive. Lots of markup in adding the date.- Top
