A friend of mine is looking at a '65 396 which at one point was NCRS judged. He has seen the judging sheets, and as they relate to the engine pad, the notations are "deviated" and NTP (not typical production) So I assume this means the engine is not correct for the car?

Re: Engine Related Judging Question for C2
I attended a presentation about block broaching and engine pads during the Frisco Regional judging class.
They showed slides of original pads with irregular character spacing, double stamping, grind-outs and other odd things caused by rework, reassignments and other production situations.
On the other hand, we saw photos of engine pads which looked "normal" (and certainly more tidy) to me, yet were fakes.Mark Edmondson

Re: Engine Related Judging Question for C2
I don't have the score sheets available right now but the scoring for the engine is broken down into a few areas. First does the engine have the correct block number ( a 396 should be 3855962) if so then go on to the block date is it within 6 months of the build date of the car, then you look at the engine pad for serial number and suffix then broaching.- Top

Re: Engine Related Judging Question for C2
Yes, you are correct in the engine judging sequence. But for the OP to say the engine is "not correct for the car" is a vague way to look at it. If he meant the engine is not the original engine the car was born with in St. Louis, then that is more specific and apparently accurate for this engine as judged.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top
