55 accelerator lever - early and late

Reviewing photos of unrestored 55's I noticed the accelerator levers on later cars differed from the early cars. This is the lever just in front of the firewall that connects to the accelerator pedal mechanism.

Early on the lever was perfectly straight, with a partially rounded top end and just one large hole for the carb linkage. Later the lever has one bend forward in it, is a little bit longer, has just one large hole, and has a flat top end.

The late lever looks like the 56-57 lever except it does not have the additional small hole in it (the one that you would think was for the return spring but was never used).

Anyone else have observations or unrestored 55 data to add?

I also wonder if the early 56s might have had the lever without the return spring hole.

Here are two photos. First car is very early, first month of production. Second car around number 600.
