One last try, 1964 M20 3-4 shift rod and shift lever

OK, I have almost beat this horse to death, and many thanks to those that replied in my other thread.

I want to hit this topic one last time, and spell out in clear language my issues.

The 1964 AIM shows the 3-4 shift lever on the side of the transmission mounted in the "outie" position. That means that the shift lever is bolted to the transmission, and then bends "OUT" away from the transmission. [Note: The 1-2 lever is mounted in the opposite, or "innie" position]. The part number for the 3-4 shift lever is 3850113.

The 1964 3-4 shift rod, part number 3852922, is specified as being 17.48 inches long (Noland Adams C2 book, page 235).

When the 3-4 shift lever is mounted in the "outie" position, the hole for the shift rod is moved about 1 1/2 inches forward of where it is when the shift lever is mounted in the "innie" position.

Let me state is again this way, the 3-4 shift lever hole for the shift rod is about 1 1/2 inches farther away from the shifter in the "outie" position than it is in the "innie" position.

The 3-4 shift rod mounts fine, and the swivel with the pin that slides into the shift lever is located about center of the threaded part of the shift rod, BUT ONLY IF THE SHIFT LEVER IS IN THE "INNIE" POSITION.

If the 3-4 shift lever is moved to the "OUTIE" position, the 3-4 shift rod IS NOT LONG ENOUGH TO REACH THE 3-4 SHIFT LEVER.

Does anyone have a "for sure original 1964 parts" shifter and associated levers and rods, and is able to get the 3-4 shift lever mounted in the "OUTIE" position? If so, HOW LONG IS YOUR 3-4 SHIFT ROD?

Thanks for indulging me in this quest to figure out what is up with my newly acquired 1964 300 hp coupe.
