    1968 horn relay/Key Buzzer

My horn stopped working. I looked at the circuit in the shop manual and was surprised to see the relay is used for both the key buzzer and the horn. I then activated the key buzzer and pushed the horn button and the horn worked. It contiued to work properly for the rest of the day. Today I had to repeat the process to get the horn alive again.

I assume bad/burned/dirty contacts on the relay

Question: Can a mere mortal open it and clean it up? This one looks to be original to the car.

Or or should I look for a replacement, if they exist?

    Thanks

      Rich,
It is quite easy to remove the cover of the relay. There are 2 tabs that are bent over that need to be straightened -carefully - and the cover should come right off. You can tell if this appears to be original by comparing the 3 digit number stamped in to the last 3 digits of the production part number. Also, I believe that the plastic bottom on '68 and early '69 is white/clear not black as in later relays. I am not at home so I can't check the numbers for you but they are in the AIM. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks guys. Very helpful. I'll let the board know how it works out. I won't be able to get to it for a week or so.
