    Re: engine code and vin

Well I'm back. I have been working on my 1957 3100 pickup and many other non car projects.

I have been searching around a block for my corvette. Just to go back my 1956 corvette is:

VIN E56S03011 NCRS build date estimate 6/18/1956

I think I have found a 265 block for my Corvette based on Edward McComas post from 11/15/2017

The block I have found has a cast date F126 and stamp of #053089F56H.

    Several questions.

    1. Do folks think this a good block candidate for my car?

    2. This is a 56 6000 truck engine. Is there any difference in the block of a truck engine?

    3. Is it possible to remove the "H" and replace it with FG or GR?

3.1 If so how is best to remove the "H"

I look forward your expert feedback.

    Thanks

    ET

Gary: Looking back at Ed's post your engine seems to be a bit out of sequence with a lower serial # than several of those with a lower vin than yours. It seems like they are out of sequence is several cases.
Interesting to look at it though.
        Thanks

          Eric,

That was the original engine from my friend Gilbert Scrivner's '56 he restored.

VIN 4026 taught me that the late '56's have '57 frames under them.

Sorry, forgot 4026 was included on Ed's list.

Was advised by a member who did lots of research on '56's that the engines were often "first in last out".

Jeff: Thanks for the picture. I have two 265 blocks that I could use for my restoration.
one F56FB and another F56H. I would like to restamp one to F56GR The second one has dates about a week before the build date of my 56. I have not been able to find any references of anybody removing a letter or two and restamping.
Have you seen or heard of this being done.
              Thanks
