1963 Rag Joint Replacement

I have a 63 split window that was a complete frame off restoration in 1996. I need to replace the rag joint. I purchased the complete unit. I have not replaced one in the past and am not sure as to what needs to be removed. Do I remove the steering wheel and lower the steering column to allow movement? I was not involved with the interior when restored. Only did the chassis and drive train. At the same time I plan on replacing the turn signal components. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Stan, I just replaced one. Loosen the two bolts that hold the rag joint to the steering box and the steering shaft. Loosen the collar clamp bolt that holds the spring in place near the firewall. (take measurements as to where the clamp is). Remove the two nuts and washers that attach the top portion of the rag joint to the bottom. Get in the car and tap the back side of the steering wheel towards you. I only had to move it about an inch. I slid the upper half off the shaft then the lower. Just reverse the process to install the new one. Take pictures for positioning before you start.

I took my time and it took about 20 minutes.
