Replacing cut pile seat back carpet and noticed that the factory glue was a bead of yellowish sticky glue along the carpet perimeter and some additional glue applied in the field area of the seat back. Looked like it was applied with a caulking/glue gun. I'm assuming after reading other threads on the topic that a spray adhesive would work in this application on plastic?? The heat had loosened the carpet so I removed and peeled the sticky glue off with no thinners. Any ideas on applying carpet to the plastic seat backs?

While I am not an expert from looks of my original 1979 that yellowish sticky glue was quite common and I think was also used attach most of the weather striping. If you wanted to stay original I'm sure you can get that same glue but I am sure there are better adhesives today that would do the job just as well if not better and no one would be the wiser.- Top

Dave, I think that the 3m super spray tack adhesive would work great.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: C3 seat back carpet adhesive
Thanks..........used the 3M super 77 and it worked great. BTW the vendor I ordered the seat back carpet from couldn't seem to get the carpet inserts to fit correctly. One fit and the other was to large by about 1/4-3/8 inch and would not fit in the seat back pocket and lay flat. Ended up sending them my original and they trimmed and reattached the vinyl edging. You would think they could get it right but as we know repros generally don't fit. I probably shouldn't complain since they were willing to sell me just the damaged seat back pieces and not buy the entire carpet kit.- Top
