    Re: 62 door internal assembly.

Struggling to re-assemble the internals on my doors after stripping long time back. Are there any detailed sheets or sketches more helpful than the re-produced factory assembly manual which is pretty poor. Keep seeing reference to the AIM. Is this the basic Assembly Manual? Any help appreciated for better pictures/diagrams.

John, I replied to your PM last night but found this stuff this morning..... Yes the AIM is the Assembly Instruction Manual.

Attached below is a excellent document written by fellow member Dave Zuberer that should help. It's a 1960 but most of it is identical to 1962. Also attached is a doc I built(that Dave customized) that talks about the link lever at the door handle button. Some of it is repetitive.

The main difference for 1962 is the Arm Rest attachment method. The 58-61 used 3 screws and a unique rear access plate with a integrated captive nut for the rearward 1/4-20 Phillips screw. The 62 arm rest uses only 2 screws with a blank rear access plate.

Here is a piece about installing the regulator on '62 - some of you may know the author:

Thanks Richard. Thru your inputs have gained much help. Still new using the forum again, but finding what needed because of good folks like you. Now if I can figure a way to print all this good stuff you gents send and carry it out to my shop before it drops out of my 77yr. old mind. The info regarding sequence will be pertinent as I made numerous errors on first door. John Triple Black 62 for 30 yrs.

Don't overlook that there is a passenger side and driver's side door lock. They will work on both sides but you should install them on the correct sides. Installed correctly you will need to turn the key toward the front of the car to unlock each side.

Don't ask me how I know you'll lose points in the Operations judging if they are installed on the wrong side.

Thankful for the heads up on correct installation. Had 50/50 chance of getting it wrong. It appears AIM does not show seal/gasket behind lock bezel that comes as part of suppliers package. Very difficult to secure cylinder in place if used, unless sanding inside of door fiberglass. Don't like to do that kind of thing, but did. Thanks Troy from JA.

50/50 didn't work in my favor. That's why I don't gamble when I go to Vegas.
