    63 and 64 hood difference

Have seen some 1963 coupes with the hood grilles that don't appear to fit properly. What I mean is that the end of the hood grille closest to the windshield is raised above the indentation for the grille in the hood. I thought that the grille should be flush with the hood. If the grille is raised above the indentation, is this a clear indication that the vehicle has been fitted with a 64 hood? Also, are there any other differences that I should watch for. Thanks.

I would say, yes, if by indentation you're talking about the recess for the grilles. If it's a case of the recess being present but the grille not fitting into the recess properly, then I would say it's a case of some sort of bogus reproduction grille.

I has seen grilles that don't fit correctly on 63's but I believe they are reproduction grilles. If 63 grilles were installed on a 64 hood it would be obvious.

Many don't add the original-style adhesive to the back of the cookie sheets when replacing them...meaning they can 'hump up" a bit in the center... Especially repros...

Other differences would be the appearance of hood blocks or evidence of holes/plugs where they would have been...if it has any of that then its a '63...

Thanks to everyone who responded. Still learning about these 63 coupes.

I started a list on the 63 only stuff.
I gave up as it was getting out of hand.
Still learning new stuff every day.
A difference I found about yesterday, the alternator bracket.
The hole for the heater hose support is in a different place.

            Early and late intake manifolds
            Different drive axle flanges
            Fiberglass color
            Exhaust pipe
            Exhaust hanger
            Bumper bracket thickness
            motor mounts
And hood grills with and with out one of the studs on the grill. (hit the radiator)
With hood alignment blocks and without.
            the list goes on.....
Might be interesting to have a list of some of the more obscure stuff.
But then one would have to define obscure.
