I recently pulled my c2 4speed and found that the "serial numbers" don't match
can someone help me with the deciphering so I can see what year it came out of?
The casting code 3851325 is from a 1964 or 1965 vehicle. Could be an M20 or M21. The side cover should have casting #3831707, and the tail housing should have casting 3846429 (64 and early 65) or 3857584 (late 65)
So the assembly code as Dave indicated would be January 28, 1964 or 1965.
I believe the J185273 is actually the VIN of the vehicle the transmission came from. What I found in one of Alan Clovin's books is that the J designated the Janesville Wisconsin plant. That plant built passenger cars, so your transmission likely came from a passenger car. However, if all the castings are correct as I indicated above, the transmission should be correct for a 1965 corvette, just didn't originate in a corvette.
