These are the stamps on my other 65 that I'm starting to restore. It's odd that the earlier one had a "S" stamped on top of the "5" of the VIN but the later one didn't.
I would say the number on the POP was intended by GM, since the build month of the engine is also listed as "02". So, a good chance the trans date was not stamped correctly, if you have a VIN. Again, there should be a VIN derivative on the other side. If not, then my scenario becomes "more like vapor".
As for the "II" or "#" under the word "GENERAL", I don't know. However, I have another photo (my part) where that appears to be a capital "I".
Keith - I just looked at a pic of my 1965 Trans date. It is stamped the same way. Do not count that out as being the original trans for that car. Do some further investigation.
Quote from: Trans & Assy Chart dated 9-20-65: Source and transmission identification to be stamped on this \\\\\ using this style figures P0503 (.188) in direction indicated.
"P" Represents Muncie built four speed passenger transmission
"05" Represents fifth month
"03" Represents third day of month
thanks to all who helped and showed pictures. I cleaned up the other side of the trans and found the matching vin stamp to the car. . So it is indeed correct.
