I have a October 1962 car and I was told by a friend/judge that my spare tire carrier is incorrect. Does anyone have a picture of an early car with an original spare time carrier for me to compare to mine?
There's definitely and early and a late variation on '63 and yours being on Oct. car will be the early variation. The fiberglass tubs are different, as is the support bracket.
Just so happens the spare tire tub for my late Dec. '62 car was convenient to get to in my garage. Not sure where the lid's located - i have multiple storage places. But here are a few pics. You can see the tub rim is not very wide - maybe 1/2 in. or so. You appear to have the later style where the rim thickness is greater and contoured differently.
I'm certain my tub is original to my car. Still shows the sands from New Mexico where I bought the car in 1988.
You can see it needs repair work where the rim is broken.
The lips look the same as mine with the exception of the wider "flare" on the sides. So the lip in the front should be consistent all around the tub. I'll take a look at Noland's book also.
