    inside mirror - 1966

Can someone tell me know what I have? The three pictures are of the inside mirror from my 66 coupe. I assume it is not correct since it is dated, but not a correct Donnelly format. The date on my mirror is 8-DKG-60.

    Anyone know what this is?

Also, is there any way to identify if the mirror is otherwise correct? If so, I believe I could order dated glass and replace.

    Thanks,

    Don Harris

That seems to be the correct configuration for a 1966 Corvette. Don't know about the date code but this is probably a replacement mirror from GM or Donnelly. Get the correct dated glass and you'll be on your way to another Top Flight. Paragon can perform the service of selling you a correct dated glass.

Don - from a recent judging event, the configuration appears to be correct. Donelley mirrors were dated, but Guide mirrors are not.

This is from Bill Calorico - National 1966 Chairman.

          My April 13, 1966 built '66 has a 3 DMI 6 mirror date.

            Re: inside mirror - 1966

Is there any way to tell an original inside mirror (standard) from a reproduction? I bought a dated mirror from Paragon and it does not fit the housing. I tried to sand it to fit with light sand paper (220), but the edges of the thin glass chiped and the mirror is ruined.

If what I have is a reproduction mirror, then I may as well purchase another reproduction.

I spoke to Joyce Borrell about replacement glass, and I have sent her the attached pictures. She said it was very hard to tell an original from a reproduction, but they may be able to tell from the pictures.

If the reproductions are that good, then???

If it is original then I will spend the money to have her replace the glass.

            Thanks,

            Don

              Don
I had the same problem with replacement glass - I ordered a correct dated glass (mirror) from Paragon - it did not fit into my original frame - it was too tall (high) and the curves on the corners were not identical with the frame - the glass radius was slightly smaller than the frame. I attempted to "sand" the height down a few hundreds of an inch, did not work, reflective material on the back side flaked off - it ruined the mirror. I ordered a complete new mirror with dated glass from Paragon. When I got the mirror I compared it to my original - I could not tell the difference - with the exception that the new one had no scratches on the chrome backside.

I have ordered the inside mirror with a dated glass from LIC ($62), they look great and I have not lost any points in judging.

I ordered the same mirror from LIC - it looks good - is dated 3DMI6 for my April 15th car. Mine had the day/night mirror which has been determined not to be TFP for 1966 cars.

Hello? Who determined that 66 Corvettes did not have day/night mirrors?

Please enlighten me on that. Need to know>

I decided to send my mirror to Joyce Borrell for glass replacement. She and her husband said mine was an original mirror, and the chrome is still pretty good.
