C4 Side door glass outer seal strip

I need to replace the drivers side outer seal strip. The passenger side is still like new but the drivers side has deteriorated due to repeated up and down movement of the glass and my arm resting on it while driving. The parts are coming and I have some magazine clippings on how to do it. Have any of you actually replaced this item and how much of a job is it?

Art, I know I replaced one on my 87 years ago. I don't remember it being a big job but it's been a long time.

I can't help with installation pointers. However, I can tell you this:

You need to maintain the weatherstrip using GM #12345579 silicone dielectric grease. This needs to be rubbed well into the weatherstrip material for all of the soft weatherstrips on the car. If you had done this, you might not be replacing the weatherstrip now.

when drilling out the rivets put a stop on the drill bit so you don't drill through the door skin. make sure all the clips are lined up and the molding is straight. once you bend it its basically junk. good luck

I was supplied with the pop rivets to replace the drilled out rivets. But I was wondering if I could use small sheet metal screws instead? Also, is it necessary to remove the side glass itself in order to get at the attaching points?

On my 94 and a 91 I did I did not have to remove the glass. I would use the pop rivets. There is not much space there and I think the tip of the screw might go into the door skin
