    63 327/340hp Idler Pulley

I'm replacing the waterpump and cleaning the front of the engine while i'm in there and i'm trying to deter if the idler pulley is correct. July 63 build, 327/340 HP, No PS or AC. There are markings on the back side of the bearings but 1 number short of a typical GM part number. Don't want to paint and install it if it's not the right one.

    It reads

885198 New Departure Made in USA

Does it look to be correct?

Your idler pulley looks correct to me. The GM part number is 3829191. The 885198 number is a bearing part number made by New departure. You can buy a 885198 ND bearing on Amazon for $12.35 plus shipping.

Thanks for that info. So an original or NOS would not have had that bearing?

It's likely an original bearing. Many original GM-New Departure bearings had 6 digit part numbers. This bearing would have been part of the GM #3829121 idler pulley assembly.

                Ed,

It may or may not have the exact same stampings as the 1963-1965 version.
