    C2 Fuel Gauge Sender Fit

Having trouble getting new sender into the tank. I get past the float and sock but can't seem to maneuver the rheostat housing through the port. New part has much tighter bend radius than the old part on the major bend. This is a Long Island offering purchased over a year ago. The bad sender being removed was a service item I installed 25 years ago so I'm confident it is correct. New part designer read 1" bend radius and built 1" bend DIA. Funny thing is it made the part much more difficult to fabricate.

Anyone have recent experience getting this item installed? I'm leery of altering the bend as this new one is stainless and no doubt tough to work with. Would dropping the tank help?

I'll be calling LI after the holiday. Certainly if this part can't be installed they have been alerted and fixed the issue long ago. I was just looking forward to reading my gauge again this weekend.

    Thanks for your insights.

I recently put one in and had no trouble fitting it thur the hole in the tank. The tank was out of the car and was upside down but I don't think that makes a difference , maybe makes it easier but not necessary . I think it's all in folding the float arm and tube together as you put it thru the hole patience is the key here . I can't remember where I got my unit the only problem I had was the rubber gasket I got with the unit was too thin and I had to use one I had ordered separetly by mistake thinking the unit didn't come with a gasket. hope this helps Jeff

      Jeffrey,

Which vendor did you buy your sender from?

A lot of bending t******* and maybe some swearing and its in. While the reproduction parts coverage for our mark is extensive, some really basic engineering often gets lost in the process. Like can it be installed.

          Thanks for your insights, gentlemen.

          Thanks

"T*******" as in the use of metal trim shears. Not aware of modern usage that would suggest the asterisk treatment. Guess I'm just old.

Yes all repros are a bit tougher to install. Usually the rectangular sending resistor "box" corner is the fit issue. There are small screws holding it together and one hangs on the tank edge.

When tank is in position, the tube hose end hits the chassis frame. It's not as simple at it may seem as you've discovered and a little t w e a k i n g is usually necessary.

Unfortunately I don't remember, this project has been going on for over 10 years and I bought the tank and sender when it first started , it may have come from corvette central but I'm not sure.

Chris - the item in the photo is not the part we sell at LI Corvette - - we sell the K&B sender - looks like the one on the right, not the tight curve in the left of your photo -- (I looked thru your purchase history and do not see you purchasing a sender from us directly) ?
in any case - the sender we sell is the K&B part, ethanol compliant - see photo >

                      KIM,

Thanks for clearing that up as I've ordered several senders from LI and never had a problem with any of the installations.

It's nice to see LI on the NCRS Board and tell Richard we all said HI as we love LI as you ship the same day and parts are always in stock.
