    1978 Starter number and application

    Hi Gents,

After some research it appear the below are accurate #s for a 1978 Corvette starter with an automatic:

    1978 Corvette Delco-Remy Starter Motors:
1109052 Early Production with Turbo Hydra-Matic Transmission
    1109065 2nd Production with Turbo Hydra-Matic Transmission

I'm generally unfamiliar with production norms for 1978 despite having just bought an L82 Pace Car with low miles. What is the correct part number starter for the car? My car is dated March, 1978 so I'm inclined to think its a 2nd production application?

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Here's what's on my 396: 1119065 8 C 13_2 (ie. mid-March). Spins it real fast

Don't happen to have a 1107352 (late June to July '65) do you ?

Hi Wayne, thanks for the note. I want to confirm the 1119065 is right for my application before I purchase a unit. I'll know more about the unit in the car Thursday and assuming the date of the motor jives with the unit you have here (and even want to sell) we can chat more than.

The 1107352 is more my cup of tea. It is absolutely the rarest Corvette starter on the planet. I do not have one and wish you fair well finding out. '65 L78 stuff is impossible to find...

Those are the correct part numbers for '78 w/auto. If the starter you've found has a date code two weeks or more before the assembly date of your car, I'd say it's acceptable.

'2nd production' is as ambiguous as 'early' and 'late'. Rolling changes are always a challenge to figure out.

With a low-mileage Pace Car, why would you not consider having that starter rebuilt rather than searching for a replacement? Within NCRS we have a couple of starter restorers and they are relatively straight forward to rebuild.

Hi Tom, thanks for the feedback and of course, restoring the original is my first priority. I am under the presumption the starter is not original, however. I should have been clearer.

            Thanks,
            Dan

What part number and date are on the starter you currently have installed in the car?

Joe, its a generic service replacement unit from a parts store...
