    K&B Special Products

    Hi:

I just wanted to mention some work I had done at K&B Special Products here in Georgia. Ken, the owner has now restored two very important components on my '67 coupe--- the radio and the main gauge cluster.

His work is simply "OUTSTANDING". I am posting some photos of his work here so you can get an idea of the quality that this guy maintains.

    THANKS KEN!!!!

Here is the finished - reworked radio: it plays flawlessly and the tone and sound are both clear and correct!!!

This is photo of the main gauge cluster prior to restoration....

The speed minder did not work---- the temp gauge was intermittent in its operation and almost every gauge was mis-aligned....much wear and tear from years of service had taken its toll.

The finished product----- all small gauges were replaced, the tach and speedo were both good so they remained as is (both were in pristine condition)..... and of course the black finish on the panel was re-done------

----- and the back of the cluster --- Ken was able to salvage the original tag --- it had been over-laid with a repair shop sticker from some time in 1975 !!!! ---- but as you can see it is mostly intact and clearly readable.

I hope you enjoyed this little side journey --- and as I mentioned Ken at K&B is really quite good!!!

(Still a few more projects left to go on this old '67 but its getting there!!!!)

    Regards
    Bill

    Hi Bill,
The condenser in the lower left corner of the picture with the pin connector should be above the temperature gauge in the upper left corner. You can see the outline where it was. I think there should be another condenser by the ignition switch where that one is. Check U69 sheet A4 of the AIM. I have had three 1967 corvettes and they have all been like that. But I have been wrong many times.
    Kind Regards

      Hey Peter:

Astute observation!!! The AIM does in fact bear that out..... the black "pin block" has a slot for the tan wire and a push pin on the side to secure it. It appears the the lower capacity should have an actual connector on it ---- I am pretty sure I have one or two of those in my pile of parts----

I'll let you know how it works --

      Thanks again!!!

      Regards
      Bill

Bill, with regards to the radio, just what did K & B do to the exterior of the radio and the control knobs? Thanks, Jack J.

          Jack:

He polished the chrome surface --- knobs were good----

He also replaced the power source and cleaned all contacts and tested... he retained the original (plastic) clear plate over the station numbers--- it has an ejection pin mark that apparently, the repro / replacement pieces do not.....that was a big deal (to me any way) to retain.....

I have not gotten into rehoming things on the interior of this car ---- we discussed re-chroming everything and it just does not make sense aesthetically or monetarily. The original chrome looks good once it is cleaned up a bit and polished..... it was never that good to begin with and one thing I really don't want to do is "over-restore" this car....the glove box door was left alone -- and looks fine. The same goes for the other items on the interior ---handles, knobs etc ---

          Regards
          Bill

            Bill,

Nice restoration but it appears that the contacts for the Ammeter are turned upside down. If they are it will result in the ammeter reading backwards. Neg for charge etc.
Also, I don't believe the mounting screws for the tach and speedo were plated. Is there a date stamped on the back of the cluster tach and speedo plate?
            Excellent job from K & B.

              Joe:

It appears they are --- have to re-set those!! Thanks!!

The date on the cluster rear side is September 13, 1966....not sure if it will be readable ----see below.
