Working on a 67 Big Block with TI ignition. Car warms up then intermittently dies but will start right back up . Runs a few more minutes then dies. Any ideas?

There is not much here to go on. You need to provide details of your issue. What have you checked out? Kinda a guessing game without more information.- Top

Re: 67 Big block cuts out?
Tom,
Which version of the big block do you have? Do you have ported or full time vacuum advance? Which vacuum advance can are you running? Is it working properly? What cam are you running? Does it run kinda rough (unstable), then die? Will it keep running if you raise the RPMs up a little?

Re: 67 Big block cuts out?
Sounds like you have fuel, ignition, air and sudden engine off status suggests electrical. This can be just ANYWHERE between the battery and the TI positive lead. Mentioned above is check the firewall connector - very good idea, if corroded in there will be a big problem! Here's another thought, I only post this here because it happened to me. Intermittent loss of ignition - driving along at 50mph and wham, engine stops and I coast along just like I had turned ignition switch to off. Started up after 5-10 mins. Happened several times, I searched everywhere. Finally I started wondering if anything in the ignition switch (which obviously sends 12V+ out) could do intermittent function. So I took out my switch, disassembled, and this is what I got. That carbon blacking on the contacts was enough to shut off my engine. Cleaned everything up, reassembled, has been fine ever since. Just saying...

Had this same problem with mine. Clean the electrical connections at the firewall. Solved my problem!- Top

Common things common (firewall connector). When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses, not zebras. One of my med school professor's sayings.- Top

Re: 67 Big block cuts out?
Tom,
sounds like some sort of electrical issue. I agree with all of these guys - it could be anything ignition switch, coil, TI, distributor. coil wire or even a spark plug wire. Dave Fiedler is the king of TI, Coils and Distributors. but try all of the other things first....Dan Young
