I am in the process of a frame off restoration on my 69 big block vet. The power steering conversion kit is installed but the steering damper cylinder is rubbing the oil pan. I talked to the supplier of the kit and they were not helpful in resolving the problem. Is there a simple fix or will I have to find a oil pan that provides more clearance?

Re: power steering conversion on 69 big block
Durwood,
How are you able to attach the PS slave cylinder along with the steering damper from the non PS at the same time?
It should be either or not both.

Re: power steering conversion on 69 big block
I guess my question was not clear. I have the cylinder attached to the left frame bracket and connected to the steering relay rod. The cylinder is what is in contact with the oil pan.- Top

Re: power steering conversion on 69 big block
Are you sure you have the outer tie rods in the correct position? There are two holes and my memory is the power steering goes to the forward most holes, but don't rely on my memory. Look in your copy of the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) to see which hole it is supposed to go in. If you put it in the wrong hole you will have exactly the problem you are experiencing. There is a plug, that looks like a large aluminum rivet that goes in the other hole when PS is installed to prevent the kind of issue you are experiencing.Terry- Top

Re: power steering conversion on 69 big block
Thanks for the tip. I do have the ends in the rear holes and found in the manual they are suppose to be forward. When it warms up I will move them forward and see if this resolves the problem.- Top

If that doesn't fix the clearance problem than you have the wrong pan .- Top
