The term "early" and "late" applies to specific components and varies by the component. For example, the changeover from the early 1969 grilles to the late 1969 grilles differs markedly from the changeover from the early 1969 hoods to the late 1969 hoods.

Even when the term "early" and "late" are applied to a specific component the exact date of the changeover is very often unknown.

Not as simple as I had hoped, the last 5 of my vin is 12163, any guess.

99.9% of Corvettes are a mixture of early and late parts. The changeover in component version were rolled out throughout the production year. There's some components that had three different versions in a given year, so early, mid and late.

The VIN number has nearly nothing to do with it. GM was very bad about keeping track of such things. As I understand it, most of the time the change was made on paper on a specific date but the actual change didn't occur until stock of the old part was depleted and the date of the actual change in production wasn't kept track of. Best you can do is look up the approximate date of production of the car and reference that to the date of the change in the AIM and make sure the updated part isn't on a car built before the date of change.

On a related note, many years ago I restored a VW Beetle, they kept meticulous records. When a change occurred they made a note of the specific VIN where the change occurred, quite different from GM.

Also, there was usually no specific changeover point. The disposition of superseded parts was usually "use until supply is exhausted", so there could be a period of hours, days, or even weeks when either early of late parts were installed. It depended on parts shipment timing and how they were inventoried. The plants didn't use disciplined FIFO inventory control. They just grabbed pallets of parts from the shipping dock and moved them to storage or the line or storage to the line based on ease and convenience.

If you want to discuss the wiper actuator on your particular car, it would be considered early as you should have the coffee can type which changed over sometime in Sept 69 and your car is built in January. If you discuss which which engine lock visor pamphlet or protecto plate manual you are supposed to have your car would be considered late as they switched that paperwork around october-November 1968.

There were three style vent knobs as well as console plates so you could have early or middle type on either one or both. Late style knobs came around February and one of my 69's has them and is a mid Feb car but has the mid style console

I have a 69 built about 700 units after yours and it has a mix of things as well but varies from my Feb car with mid type vent knobs.

So as the previous posters stated, it depends.
