1967 427 Fan Shroud to Radiator Foam Seals

    Non C60 car.....

Since the shroud was a assembly did it include any foam seals?

The AIM does not show them however the vendors supply them. I see gaps at the bottom and top of this shroud and wondering what was used originally, if anything.

Well I would look at some 1967 publications first for some good engine details. Then try Noland's book which seems to call for such even on non C60 cars.

Alan, Thanks, yes but it's hard to see them in pubs as they're hidden.

Noland's book was checked. It is confusing to me. I believe he means in his caption: ".....on C60 cars;big-block cars also used side seals." to me means only those with C60, as described.

        Rich,
Referencing Alan's pic and your quote from Noland, the semi-colon seperates the statements...I read it as "big block cars also used side seals".

The page is 408. It is the last page in the C60 RPO description, pages 405 to 408, so it is specifically describing the features of C60.

I don't believe he's referring to all big blocks, only C60 non SHP big blocks.

            Richard------

Yes, when something is shown in the RPO section for a particular RPO it means it's something different than regular production. So, if the seals appear in the C-60 section that not only means that they are used with C-60 applications but it means they are NOT used with the non-C-60 configuration.

Of course, they could be used with other RPO's, for example the big block application. However, if they were so used they would be either referred to in the other RPO as "same as C-60" or would be shown in the various sheets for that option. The 1967 big block option, while showing the radiator, shroud, and support does not show the seals.

Ergo, the seals were used only for C-60 applications, big block or small block. Of course, the seals could be installed in non C-60 applications now and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing so, in this case originality be damned.

Thanks Joe. That's how I interpreted it too. No shroud seals originally.

I agree it's a good idea to add them for better cooling. In this case I'll likely add them later.

I did a similar thing on a 1960 270HP a few years ago. This uses the Top Tank radiator. By design, the area below the front of this design had a large gap, about 1" IIRC. I added my own lower seal to the design for better air flow through the radiator.

The lack of radiator-to-shroud and radiator-to-support seals on early Corvettes right through the 1967 model year was a huge and stupid mistake by Chevrolet. Cooling in these cars, NEVER known for being over-cooled, could be dramatically improved by the simple and low-cost addition of the seals.
